So it turns out that APAHE was able to get it together for their annual conference, which started yesterday. The program looks pretty interesting with awards to Yuri Kochiyama and Don Nakanishi - both very deserving people to be recognized. Too bad, I didn't know about it until about a week ago that this was going down. I found out the conference was happening when I was invited to sit on a panel to discuss the new UC admissions eligibility policy, which I wrote about here, here, and here. Of course, with a week's notice, I just didn't have the time or money to get myself up to the Bay for this event. I also wonder how much APAHE really wanted to invite me after this post that I wrote. It certainly would have been interesting. I hear there aren't a lot of people registered for the event, which is entitled "Passing the Torch: A New Generation of API Leaders." Let's hope the new crew of APAHE leadership is better with being inclusive leaders. If you happen to be in the Bay, try to catch some of the program, and support. Because even if I don't agree with APAHE's leadership style, I support their efforts. Hey... at least they're doing something, and hopefully it can lead to sustainable and inclusive leadership among AAPI's in higher education.
hey spam fried rice, nice blog posting about admissions.
have you noticed that uc system's yield overall is dropping? and what, if anything do you make of that?
also, i am wondering if you think the following is correct: given the rising number of applicants and general rise in the population, its just a matter of time before uc will change admissions rules again, to meet the 12.5% mandate.
can i ask you some questions offline? dana
