Chronic Diseases Program Assistant
Organizational Description:
The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) influences policy,
mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the
health of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI)
populations. Founded in 1986, we advocate on issues critical to the health and
well-being of our diverse and vibrant communities. We approach our work with the
philosophy of coalition-building and developing capacity both for AAs and NHPIs
and in partnership with diverse racial/ethnic communities. APIAHF is based in
San Francisco and has an office in Washington , DC , which focuses on policy
and communications.
Title: Chronic Diseases Program Assistant
Reports to: Chronic Diseases Program Director
Classification: 7
Position Summary:
The Chronic Diseases Program currently addresses cancer and cancer survivorship,
in addition to past projects in tobacco control and cardiovascular disease.
Future areas that may be addressed by this program include nutrition, diabetes,
and physical activity. The Chronic Diseases Program Assistant will provide
administrative support to program activities related to the Asian & Pacific
Islander National Cancer Survivors Network (APINCSN) and administrative support
to the overall agency, as assigned and as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Work with staff on designing, editing, and completing various reports,
health briefs, and publications (e.g., newsletters, wiki alerts, etc.).
· Support program’s communication aspects and streamline electronic,
website, mailing, and in person communication needs (e.g., electronic APINCSN
quarterly updates).
· Maintain and update Chronic Diseases Program databases.
· Respond to capacity building assistance requests.
· Provide coordinated logistical support of trainings, meetings,
teleconferences, and events.
· Coordinate collection of cancer survivor/advocate videos for Video of
Hope project.
· Assist with other Chronic Diseases Program duties as needed.
· Provide assistance to agency administration as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
· Associates Degree or equivalent work experience.
Skills, knowledge and abilities:
· Perfect attention to detail.
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Meet deadlines and work efficiently in a busy environment.
· Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
· Strong motivation and adaptability, including ability to work with
little supervision.
Desired Qualifications:
· Bilingual in an Asian or Pacific Islander language.
· Skilled in interpretation and/or translation.
· Research experience.
General APIAHF Roles:

hoc committees as requested.
· Attends APIAHF and Board of Directors meetings, when required.
Mental and Physical Demands:
· Pace of work is fast.
· Standing time required is 10%, including walking.
· High level of concentration and attention to detail required.
· Time speaking and listening: range of 40-50% .
· Environmental and health hazards.
· Ability to travel by plane for long periods of time: range of 20-30%.
· Ability to drive.
