Are AAPIs the Stealth Swing Vote? Join Call Tonight to Swing that Vote Left!

Have you heard about the latest survey APIAVote & AAJC are releasing today? Through Lake Partners Research, APIAVote & AAJC commissioned the first ever AAPI voter attitudes poll. Let's remember the facts. The AAPI community is THE fastest growing demographic in this country. More members of the AAPI community are becoming eligible to vote everyday. 3 in 10 AAPIs polled have no opinion of Romney, leaving lots of opportunity for either party to persuade their vote.

The large proportion of undecided voters suggests there's room for both parties to grow with the Asian-American vote, yet those surveyed said the parties aren't doing much to engage them. Just 23 percent of those polled said they'd been contacted by the Democratic Party in the past two years, while 17 percent reported contact with the GOP. In the overall population, that number is generally between 30 and 40 percent, according to researcher David Mermin of Lake Research Partners, the Democratic polling firm that conducted the survey.

It is projected that AAPIs will be voting in record numbers this fall.

In swing states such as Nevada, Florida, and Virginia, the Asian-American vote could prove decisive. The poll oversampled voters in those states and found a closer race than nationally: In Nevada, it was Obama 54, Romney 29; in Florida, it was 57-29; and in Virginia, 57-20.

It is important for us to recognize the role of politics and elections as a tool within the larger toolbox of the progressive champion. Today marks the first day of the APA Heritage Month and the Launch of AAPIs for Obama.

Join us tonight for the National AAPIs for Obama Launch Call at 5pm PST/8pm EST, RSVP here for your call-in code and figure out how we can engage our community to vote and win!
