H/T to Slant Eye for the Round Eye
For Asian American actors, the question of crossover appeal is a make or break one. I happen to see an increase representation of Asian Americans in media, particularly television, over the past several years and this quote, taken from the New Jerson On-Line,
Cinema Can't Keep Up with Hayakawa's Strides, seems to send an ignorant bomb right into the heart of the Asian American community:
Author Ian Baruma, who curated the yakuza series, admits Asians don't figure prominently in American movies. "But why would they," he rhetorically asks. "Most Hollywood films are pitched to achieve the maximum appeal. The Asian-American audience isn't particularly significant, demographically."
Can Ian Baruma please attend a crash course on the numbers and contributions of Asians and Asian American's in the United States and see if he is still able to argue that Asians are not "demographically" significant?
