Testimonials from the Campaign Trail---
Tonia Bui: Field Organizer, Darcy Burner for Congress
"The Asian Pacific American Civic Project gave me the opportunity to work with the Darcy Burner for Congress campaign, the most competitive Congressional race in the nation. As a field organizer, I have built relationships with the volunteers. A memorable moment for me was the day after the Primary election, when our volunteer Joy Hennessey, called me to apologize for missing her volunteer GOTV shift because she went to the hospital for a blood transfusion. I am also constantly persuading voters in the district to vote for Darcy Burner. Because I am Vietnamese American, I have been able to talk to voters using my Vietnamese language skills. My work as a field organizer has also expanded into the finance department. I have coordinated a fundraising event with Congressman Mike Honda and Former Governor Gary Locke that targets the Asian American community. I have networked with many Asian American political leaders in the 8th Congressional district of Washington. Overall, Darcy Burner's campaign has allowed me to explore many facets of politics that would enable to continue a political career in the future."
Allen Chiu: Field Organizer, Ashwin Madia for Congress
"My experience with the Asian American Civic Project has surpassed every one of my expectations. The amount I've learned about politics and campaigning is hard to believe. From campaign school to being placed on a top ten competitive Congressional race, there's hardly an aspect of political campaigning that I haven't had a chance to learn about. As a field organizer with the Ashwin Madia campaign, I speak to voters everyday about the critical issues affecting their lives. Although I've learned a great deal from campaign school and nightly staff meetings about each aspect of political campaigns and strategies, there's nothing quite like speaking directly to an individual voter about their concerns. AACP has provided a great opportunity for me to learn about politics, make some great connections, and to make a difference."
Jenna Lee: Finance Assistant, Dan Seals for Congress
"Hi everyone! I am working as a finance assistant with the Dan Seals for Congress Campaign in the 10th District of Chicago, IL. On most days, I help to plan events, research and reach out to different communities about our upcoming events and how our candidate can bring positive change to the district and Washington. The Asian American community in our area is wonderful and very politically active. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to get to know them better. At the office, I work with a professional, efficient group of people and am learning new things every day. Thanks to the Asian American Civic Project, I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in a progressive campaign in this crucial time in our country's history."
Katie Liu: Finance and Communications Assistant, Dina Titus for Congress
"It has been 2 months since I've been working on the Dina Titus Campaign in Las Vegas. The experience of campaigning has been very unique, different from any other jobs I've had in the past. Although I'm mainly assigned to fundraising, in reality, I do a little bit of everything. I do house parties, fundraising events, make fundraising calls, research for press related materials, gathering press clips every morning, building for field events, building for press events, and community outreach.
The most satisfying aspect of the campaign for me personally has been working on Asian American outreach. I have been organizing and staffing all the Asian American events my candidate attend in the community. It is satisfying seeing my candidate listen to the issues that matter to Asian American and educating them on her platform. In addition, I have been working with the Obama Campaign for Change, coordinating and managing API volunteers who come from California. It has been empowering to see the volunteers make contact with the local Asian American community, registering them to vote, informing them on the issues, and persuading them to vote Democratic."
