FULL-TIME POSITION: LEADERSHIP COORDINATOR

Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Asian American Institute (AAI) was
established in 1992 as a pan-Asian, not-for-profit organization. Our mission
is to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, by utilizing
research, education and coalition building. AAI is a member of Asian
American Center for Advancing Justice along with our affiliates, the Asian
American Justice Center (Washington, DC), Asian Law Caucus (San Francisco,
CA), and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (Los Angeles).
AAI is seeking a full-time Leadership Coordinator to assist in community
capacity-building and also the planning, implementing and growing of AAI's
leadership programs including the Impact Fellows Program, the Asian American
Leadership Forum and the National Advancing Justice Conference.
REPORTS TO: Policy Director
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Impact Fellows Program:
o Planning: update curriculum; develop cohesive workshops; research
and recruit potential trainers and workshop leaders;
o Logistics: invite and confirm speakers; schedule field trips;
prepare materials and documentation of workshops;
o Internship Partner Sites: Recruit applicable organizations;
disseminate materials and information; confirm sites and maintain positive
partnerships;
o Fellows: Recruit, interview and select candidates; update and
disseminate recruitment materials; Establish expectations and guidelines for
fellows; Evaluate and manage fellows throughout duration of program; post
engagement with fellows;
o Implementation: Attend/monitor all program sessions; coordinate
logistics and collect evaluation data;
o Evaluation: Collect, review, and summarize evaluation data; assist
staff in conducting mid-program and final individual feedback sessions with
each participant;
o Reports: Draft report to program funders at close of program;
o Innovation: Increase program value to participants.
Asian American Leadership Forum:
o Planning: Participate in planning committee meetings; develop
theme; recruit for workshop submissions; confirm speakers; develop plenary
schedule;
o Logistic: Coordinate venue; catering; supplies; coordinate
set-up/take down of event.
o Recruitment: Recruit organizational partners and attendees in
business, government, student, and nonprofit sectors;
o Marketing: Manage the dissemination of promotional materials;
update websites; send out e-blast updates; develop promotional material.
Community Capacity Building
* Develop and coordinate a training program which integrates civic
engagement, advocacy and professional development for staff of Asian
American community-based organizations (CBOs).
* Assess current capacity and training needs of CBOs;
* Work closely with AAI's community organizing staff to create and
implement a professional development and capacity-building program.
National Advancing Justice Conference
* Represent AAI on planning committees for the Asian American Center
for Advancing Justice's national conference
o Coordinate the 2012 national Advancing Justice Conference in
Chicago, which includes: leading the planning committee, coordinating all
conference logistics, and assisting in fundraising efforts;
* Assist AAI's development team in securing funding for new leadership
programs;
* Assist the Policy Director with related tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
* At least 3 years experience in planning and carrying out trainings
and/or events.
* Preferred: experience working with Asian American communities,
especially in a multi-generational and/or multi-ethnic setting; experience
in leadership training; experience in working with youth ages 17-22 is an
asset.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills; motivated
self-starter; ability to work independently, think creatively and prioritize
multiple tasks with attention to detail.
* Openness and ability to adapt and respond to changes in the
environment.
* Flexible working hours including some evenings and weekends.
START DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY/ BENEFITS: Salary will commensurate with experience;
