Betting on Immigration Reform in Las Vegas

The sun was beating down hard on the thousands of activists rallying for immigration reform in 2010 standing on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Rally for America stage -- the intense heat a metaphor for the immigration reform debate.  Chants were our uniform tool to greet Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who addressed us on his home turf to reaffirm his commitment to passing immigration reform this year.  He has shared that he will bring immigration reform to the Senate floor when a bill is introduced.

Policy and political debates aside, what we know to be true on the ground remains that without immigration reform families are torn apart, workers are abused and students are barred from furthering their education and fulfilling their potential.  And that is only a part of the story.

While from the grassroots NAKASEC, KRC & so many more groups have been mobilizing for years to get immigration reform passed, ultimately, we cannot pass the bill without action and leadership from Congress and the President to make our needed change a reality.

We aren't giving up hope nor engagement with our communities and our political leaders, and advocating for immigrant rights entails so much more than one major bill.   With that in mind, we rallied in DC on March 21st with over 200,000 people, we rallied in Las Vegas, and we'll keep on rallying until the day of celebration.

Thanks for this posting and for sharing the video clip with people, Olivia. It was awesome that you went to Las Vegas and are so committed for the longhaul of building up humane immigration laws for America.

A criminal is constantly a criminal, so as an illegal immigrant is always an illegal citizen. For this, they should be deported. There are more legal migrants who are waiting to do their labor. These are workers who are willing to pay out taxes as unwilling to illegals who do not pay their taxes.
