Betting on Immigration Reform in Las Vegas

The sun was beating down hard on the thousands of activists rallying for immigration reform in 2010 standing on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Rally for America stage -- the intense heat a metaphor for the immigration reform debate.  Chants were our uniform tool to greet Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who addressed us on his home turf to reaffirm his commitment to passing immigration reform this year.  He has shared that he will bring immigration reform to the Senate floor when a bill is introduced.  


Meeting America’s Heart of Darkness

It’s hard to begin talking about today’s march against Sheriff Arpaio without sharing more about the pueblo Guadalupe.  In the pueblo, there are only around 5,500 people.  But their small numbers don’t tell the stories about Guadalupe’s unique, close-knit community, or anything of their history. 


From Arizona, On the Eve of our March

For months, social justice groups across the nation have had Sheriff Joe Arpaio on their radar as one of the worst manifestations of our broken immigration system.  Today, I’m writing as I sit on a bus full of Los Angeles community members who are committed to take action against the inhumane enforcement methods of Sheriff Arpaio.
