On Thursday, in response to Rep. Gutierrez's introduction of CIR ASAP, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center will host a listening and Q&A session in Los Angeles for a tele-townhall hosted by Rep. Mike Honda, one of the original co-sponsors for Rep. Gutierrez's bill.

CIR-A.S.A.P. Outlines a Progressive Vision and Workable Solution – Today, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) took the first real step toward fixing our broken immigration system. Months in the making, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009 addresses the concerns of the Asian American and other immigrant communities, reunites families, restores fairness to our labor markets, recognizes the contributions of immigrant workers and families and helps get the economy back on track.

For nearly a decade, reforming our broken immigration system has been a central concern of immigrant communities, including Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Despite several heated rounds of debate, legislators have been locked in a stalemate and unable to move forward a comprehensive reform package. 

Today starts the kickoff to the first AAPI National Week of Action, a series of events around the country organized by several of the leading AAPI organizers and allies of comprehensive immigration reform.

After two weeks of incredible posts on the need for a broad and inclusive health reform, the fight to pass health reform will happen in the predominantly API SoCal town of Alhambra on Tuesday night, when Congressman Adam Schiff, a "Blue-Dog" Democrat, hosts a townhall on health care reform.

Each day we hear about the need to reform our health care system, and often the conversation focuses on those trying to derail the process. We often hear about the skyrocketing costs leading to bankruptcy for many families, the insurance company profit margins and the economic costs and benefits reform could potentially bring. What we don’t hear about are the large swaths of the American population that will be left out entirely. Among them: Immigrants.
