Chase Community Giving Program

If you’re a Facebook user, you’ve probably heard of Chase Community Giving program. You may have even voted for your favorite non-profits in the first round.  The results of the 100 organizations that received the most votes were revealed in December, and among them were four Asian Pacific American organizations highlighted below. All four of the organizations received $25,000 dollars and have continued on to the next round to compete for $1 million. In the second and last round, they share with us their Big Idea for using the $1 million to better their community.

Learn more about these organizations, and support the work they’re doing in the APA community by casting your votes on January 15th.

Chinatown Youth Initiatives is committed to empowering youth in New York City with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the needs of Chinatown, Asian Americans, and other underrepresented communities. To accomplish this mission, Chinatown Youth Initiatives is committed to identity development, educating youth on topics not explored in standard high school curricula, and leadership development.

Big Idea: Continue to empower youth to create, implement, lead, and evaluate project initiatives to address pressing community needs.

Center for The Pacific Asian Family is committed to building healthy and safe communities by addressing the root causes and the consequences of family violence and violence against women. It opened the first multilingual and multicultural emergency shelter and transitional housing program for APA victims of domestic violence in the United States.

Big Idea: Develop a multilingual call center in the Los Angeles County that will support 20 domestic violence shelters and 6 rape crisis centers allowing them to serve more survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

Jakara Movement is an institution for the recruitment and training of volunteers and a hub for the Sikh Californian youth. It engages Sikh youth in various projects to strengthen their identity and consciousness as Sikhs, foster education through service-learning, and inspire activism and volunteerism.

Big Idea: Create culturally diverse women’s centers (shelter and transitional home) for underserved communities.

Sikhcess is dedicated to enriching people’s lives through regular, sustained, and meaningful volunteer service. It provides a venue for people to come together to create a just, peaceful and sustainable world.

Big Idea: Expand the work they are currently doing (clothing, feeding and educating children) globally.

Beyond voting, consider making a monetary donation or volunteering with these organizations. Your time and money will be most appreciated.
