Washington, D.C. - Last night, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus honored outgoing Chair, Congressman Mike Honda (CA -15) for 7 years of leadership as Caucus Chair while welcoming Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32) as incoming Chair.
The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), founded in 1994 by AOF Chair and former Congressman Norman Mineta, consists of members of the United States Congress who have a strong interest in promoting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) issues and advocating the concerns of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Caucus includes congressional members of East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian or Pacific Islander descent, members with high concentration of AAPIs in their district or who have an interest in AAPI issues.
During Congressman Honda’s tenure, CAPAC members have worked together to address numerous public policies that impacted AAPI constituencies and served as an instrumental body working in partnership with AAPI leaders and coalitions on issues like affordable health care, immigration reform, job creation, Filipino veterans’ equity, language access, housing and education.
“Mike has worked tirelessly to grow CAPAC into a strong organization of Congressional Members who have collectively worked for the betterment of Asian American & Pacific Islander communities”, remarked AOF Chair, Norman Mineta. “ It is with pride that we recognize his years of dedicated service and his leadership in CAPAC and Congress.”
AOF is proud to support the candidacy of many previous and current CAPAC members including Congressman Mike Honda, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and CAPAC’s two newest members Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa and Congressman Hansen Clarke. AOF looks forward to the continued growth of CAPAC under Congresswoman Chu’s leadership in the years ahead.
