Just found out about this. The Congressional Black Caucus is lobbying President Obama to consider Congressman Bobby Scott for the Supreme Court nomination. With African American, White, and Filipino ancestral lineage, Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) is the first Filipino American to serve in Congress. His District (3rd Congressional District) includes Norfolk and Newport News, which have sizeable Filipino American communities.
Personally, I don't think the excuse "Hey we already have a Black Justice" really works, since it's hard to argue that Justice Thomas has ever really looked out for the interests of people of color or other marginalized populations. Plus, since Mr. Scott is also Asian American, if the Obama administration were to nominate him, it would be the first time anyone with Asian American ancestry would be in that position
I wonder what his relationship with the Congressional APA Caucus is like, and if CAPAC is getting involved in this.
