Filipino Vets Remain Cautiously Optimistic

fullequitynow With the signing of the economic stimulus package tomorrow in Denver, President Barack Obama will be taking a major step in rectifying one of the leading issues driving AAPI political organizing and activism in the community. On the eve of that signing, many of the Fil Vets and organizers are remaining cautiously optimistic. I guess after being denied what is rightly yours for over sixty years, I can understand why many of them are still waiting to see what happens tomorrow. For some links to some really great articles, "flip" to the other side. :)

let me get this right, Filipinos were fighting for their own freedom in their own part of the world..... but because the US trained and armed them, the USA has a debt to people for protecting themselves.?? So if the US had not armed and trained them, then all of AE Asia would be decimated and the US would never have stationed in the Philippines and no-one would be asking for money. Or.... are you saying that Philippinos would never have fought for their own freedom if the US had not offered assistance?

whats disgusting is that this made it into the stimulus package. That package is NOT for stimulating other peoples economies - US only! That money will end up like 95% of every dollar earned by Fiipinos - - it ill be sent directly to the Philippines, having nothing to do with the US.

Clearly, some folks never learned that the Phillippines was United States territory during WWII, nor are they aware that Filipino veterans were thus members of the United States military. I'd also be curious to see the data on all the alleged money that 80+ year old Filipino Americans are sending overseas. I was also not aware that remittances are not taxed, that US banks and financial institutions receive no compensation for financial transfers, and that the relative prosperity of other countries has no impact on our foreign trade.

You sir need to get an education before you begin talking out of your ass. Get all the facts before you start pontificating about an issue you aren't well-informed about. If you want me to drop some knowledge on your thick head, just e-mail me. I'll be happy to crack an egg of knowledge all over your face.
