Jean Quan, Oakland City Councilmember and a founder of Asian American Studies, is running against a machine politician to become Oakland's first woman Mayor and the United States' first Asian American woman Mayor of a major urban city.
Having organized neighborhoods block by block for the past two decades as a School Boardmember and City Councilmember, Jean has developed an extensive network of empowered residents who are getting behind this historic race to transform politics in Oakland. With her roots in the Third World Strike at UC Berkeley, union organizing, and being a parent activist, Jean has brought grassroots politics to City Hall and created real changes in education, safety, economic development, and neighborhood empowerment.
She is running against Don Perata, a long-time pay-to-play politician who has been under investigation for money laundering and who is backed by wealthy developers, so Jean needs your support now to build a strong grassroots campaign to win in 2010! The polling looks good and the community is behind her, so what we need now are the resources to launch and get us on the ground knocking door-to-door and getting our message out.
3 Ways You Can Help:
1) DONATE to the EFFORT!
Visit www.jeanquanforoakland.org to make an online contribution or monthly donation.
We need to be able to rival the number of mailers our opponent will be sending across the city trying to smear us.
2) SPREAD the WORD!
Tell your networks about this historic race, and ask them to donate, get involved in the campaign, and continue spreading the word.
If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a San Francisco community fundraiser next Wednesday, so come on through or tell your friends:

and California Physicians Alliance co-founders Dr. Floyd Huen and Dr Kevin Grumbach.
3) VOLUNTEER your SKILLS!
Help us develop media, participate in blogs & other e-activism, help raise money, or join the campaign team if you're local.
