HHS Announces Comprehensive Plan to Reduce Health Disparities
Washington, DC—The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Friday, April 8, will unveil
its road map for eliminating health and health care disparities, the most comprehensive federal effort to
address differences in health for racial, ethnic and other underserved communities.
Racial and ethnic minorities still lag behind in many health outcome measures. They are less likely to get
the preventive care they need to stay healthy and more likely to suffer from serious illnesses.
The HHS Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Disparities and the accompanying National
Stakeholder Strategy for Achieving Health Equity are intended to guide initiatives and provide strategies
for public and private action to address health disparities.
