SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS: The Executive Director of APIAVote will have the primary responsibility of leading the organization through:
Fundraising and Financial Management
· Develop, manage and monitor organization’s fundraising plan, including building and maintaining relationships with funders. Develop, manage and monitor organization’s financial management system.
Programs
· Develop and oversee all programs of APIA Vote, including field and leadership programs.
· Assist local partners to implement their civic participation campaigns.
· Develop and oversee APIAVote’s communications program, to promote awareness of API civic engagement issues and highlight the work of local partners.
Coalition building and collaboration
· Promote strategic alliances and collaborations with organizational and institutional partners.
· Establish APIA Vote as a leader in convening diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to project a unified voice.
Personnel Management
· Hire, manage and evaluate staff and contractors, and provide supervision to senior and administrative staff, ensuring that staff have adequate resources, training and support.
Board Development
· Maintain strong and effective relations with the Board of Directors by providing thoughtful and timely information.
· Provide support to Board committees and assist with Board cultivation and development.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a motivated individual with experience in financial management and oversight, strategic planning, civic engagement, community/electoral organizing and fundraising at the national level. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required. Ability to manage staff and resources efficiently is critical.

DESCRIPTION:: AFSCME ALTERNATIVE BREAK PROGRAM is for student activists interested in exploring a career in union organizing and the labor movement. Participants travel to an active union organizing campaign for five days of intensive classroom and field training. Program participants will be provided with lodging and transportation during the week as well as a $125. Transportation to the campaign site is the responsibility of the participant. Students who successfully complete the week will be given priority consideration for our Organizer-in-Training program.

DESCRIPTION:: AFSCME UNION SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP provides students of color, African American, Latino American, Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, as well as Native Americans, with an opportunity to work on the front lines of the labor movement. Students participate in a variety of activities that may include helping non-union workers organize a union at their job, building AFSCME's grassroots political program or conducting research for organizing campaigns. The ten-week internship provides a stipend of $4,000, on-site housing, and an opportunity to attend a week-long orientation and training, which is sponsored by the Harvard Labor and Work Life Program. In addition, participants who successfully complete their internships are eligible to receive an academic scholarship of up to $5,000. Open to sophomores and juniors of color.

DESCRIPTION: The American Progressive Caucus Policy Foundation (APCPF), a new public interest organization focused on connecting Congressional Progressive Caucus Members with progressive leaders, policy experts, and organizations outside of Congress, seeks a dynamic new executive director. The newly founded, APCPF will work at the cutting
edge of advocacy to design and implement a real progressive agenda that: Promotes peace and global security, energy independence, environmental sustainability, human rights, civil liberties, and the health and well-being of us all.
The new Executive Director will be expected to lead the institution as it advances its program goals in the years ahead. The position calls for a creative leader with outstanding strategic management and communications skills, as well as strong political savvy and a bold leadership spirit.
A 6-member board committee has been established to conduct this search.
BACKGROUND
APCPF was incorporated in 2006. Today its 18-member board includes former Congressional staff and veteran public interest leaders who have pioneered and led successful campaigns for progressive reforms. Headquartered in Washington, the APCPF Board is composed of individuals serving in philanthropy, law, labor, peace and environmental organizations. With a projected first-year budget of approximately $500,000, the APCPF will be funded by a range of private foundations, major donors, and individuals. The APCPF is a non- partisan 501 (c) (3) organization.
CURRENT SITUATION
The demands on APCPF’s mission and expertise continue to grow. In the wake of 2008 elections and the radically changed political landscape, the APCPF will be instrumental in providing advice to Congress in developing a dynamic blueprint for progressive change. It is now working on a strategic plan for advocacy and public education to ensure meaningful implementation of progressive policies and bi-partisan institutional reforms to reduce military spending, reform health care provide real bailout oversight and to restore constitutional checks and balances.
In light of these tremendous opportunities and challenges, the Board is committed to raising funds and hiring full-time staff. Reporting directly to the Board, the new Executive Director will take charge of the internal management of APCPF, and work closely with the Board and Progressive Leadership organizations to maximize the institution’s public profile and impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Management: Hire and supervise staff, budget, programs, outreach communications, and oversee all legal and general administrative matters including the budget and financial operations, audits, and grant compliance. Oversee personnel performance standards and systems including hiring and firing decisions, and maintain high-quality human resource development and benefit programs.
Program: With direction from the Board, work with senior staff to develop and manage program strategies including issue campaigns, advocacy tactics, and proper alignment of staff and financial resources to meet defined goals and objectives within budget. Ensure that programs are strategic, effective and well-coordinated internally and with allied groups and coalitions.
Communications: Oversee all communications including website content, quarterly newsletter, press releases, and publications. Provide strategic input to the Board of Directors and Progressive Caucus members in preparing membership communications, annual reports, promotional brochures, and other marketing materials.
Public Relations: Work with the board to ensure strong representation of the organization to the general public, the media, funders, agencies and other organizations. Speak at hearings, conferences and other forums. Develop and maintain extensive professional network.
Development: In conjunction with the Board of Directors, assist with strategic planning, institutional development, financial growth, and expansion and maintenance of donor and foundation relations.
QUALIFICATIONS
APCPF seeks a seasoned individual who is comfortable supervising and managing senior colleagues, juggling multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment, who has the strategic and political skills to strengthen and advance the organization. A strong executive and collaborative leadership style with diverse political and nonprofit skills, demonstrated record of successful management and fundraising experience, high energy, tight efficiency, excellent communication skills, entrepreneurial drive, and a dynamic commitment to the mission is desired. Ability to think and act strategically, tactically and creatively within budget limits, as well as have grace, civility, imagination, excellent judgment, and a sense of humor is a must. Preference will be given to a record of executive management success. Minimal educational requirement of a B.A. or B.S. degree.

DESCRIPTION: The Martin Luther King, Jr. County Civil Rights Commission is soliciting applications from individuals in the following County Council District: 9 - Council Member Reagan Dunn (Maple Valley, Renton, Bellevue, New Castle, Covington, and Kent).
All Commission members are confirmed by the County Council and serve without pay. It is the goal of the county to recruit people from diverse ethnic and protected group backgrounds, including people with disabilities. Commissioners must reside within King County. All Commission members are bound by the County Code of Ethics, and are required to complete a financial disclosure statement upon appointment. Each Commissioner serves a three-year term.
The Commission was established in December, 1995 to take a strong leadership role in raising community awareness and involvement on civil rights issues and to advise the County Executive and County Council on matters related to the County’s civil rights programs. Thus, the Commission is responsible for reviewing and reporting on the effectiveness and progress of the county’s affirmative action, non-discrimination enforcement, and minority/women business utilization programs. It is also responsible for educating the public and concerned groups on methods to prevent and eliminate discrimination and advises County government on human and civil rights issues.
Potential candidates should have interest and experience related to the goals of the Commission, live in the appropriate County Council District, and be willing and able to commit 8-10 hours monthly to Commission meetings and work projects. Commissioners are expected to attend monthly meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month from 3:00-5:00 p.m., and to participate in committee work which can require additional meetings.
