Here's some interesting news out of New Jersey. Former mayor of Edison, Jun Choi, has announced that he is running for Congress in the state's 7th district, a district that Obama actually carried.
"I'm running for Congress because we need to revitalize New Jersey and America's middle class," Choi said in a statement released today.
"Leonard Lance is an honorable man, but his stance in Washington has been different from (his) stance in Trenton," Choi said.
He noted the support of state Democratic chair and Assemblyman John Wisniewski and party leaders from Union, Somerset and Hunterdon counties.
Todd Mitchell, Lance’s chief of staff, welcomed Choi into the race. Mitchell said years of failed economic policies under Democrat majorities in Congress had led to record unemployment and debt.
It's just a snippet, but I did notice the difference in language used between Jun and Lance's spokesperson. I hope that Jun will stop praising his opponent and come out with stronger language.
Choi, 39, was chief executive of Edison, the fifth-largest municipality in the state, from 2006 to 2009. He beat incumbent Democratic Mayor George Spadoro in a primary to win the party nomination in 2005 and went on to win the general election.
His reform efforts angered municipal employees, particularly police and firefighters, who in 2009 threw their support behind then-councilwoman Antonia Ricigliano, who won the Democratic primary and went on to become mayor.
Hopefully Jun has mended fences with the unions.
