I guess it took actor Kal Penn a little longer than expected to get his house in order. He's now officially started his job as the Associate Director in the White House's Office of Public Engagement. Specifically, Kal, or Kalpen Modi (his legal name and the name he will be going by in the White House), will be working on Asian American and Pacific Islander outreach, as well as outreach to the arts community.
For those who aren't familiar with Kalpen's political and community work, Kalpen actively campaigned for Obama throughout the past year. On top of that, he also taught a course on Asian American studies at the University of Pennsylvania and according to the students, he was a hit.
Let's hope that having such a high-profile advocate working to connect the Administration to the community will bring greater attention to our community's issues and concerns.
