After the recent New York City primary and runoff, Asian Americans celebrated the historic victories by New York City Comptroller candidate John Liu and City Council candidates Kevin Kim, Margaret Chin and Yen Chou. I guess some people were not as excited. According to this brief story in the New York Post, two volunteers for Kevin Kim saw the flipside:
Two volunteers for an Asian-American Democratic candidate for City Council claim that about a dozen teens pelted them with racial slurs, a football -- and fliers supporting his GOP rival.
The Kevin Kim aides, one male and one female, filed a police report saying they had been hanging posters at a deli near Cross Island Parkway and Francis Lewis Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m. last Wednesday.
The woman said the teens yelled, "Kevin Kim sucks!" and "Asian men out!" as they tossed fliers backing Dan Halloran for the 19th District seat.
It's a developing story and we'll try to keep you updated.
And don't forget, the general election is Nov. 3rd.
Unless I see a copy of an actual complaint report filed with the NYPD, I’m not inclined to believe this false narrative. I think the tale was planted by the Kevin Kim campaign or by thoughtless, myopic Kim supporters.
Can anyone produce a complaint report/documentation?
According to the NY Post story, by reporter Maggie Haberman, the two persons allegedly racially harassed and victimized were Kevin Kim campaign volunteer aides/workers.
I have a few questions to ask those legal experts out there >
1. Is it a crime to file a false police report or complaint? If so will the person(s) be arrested? And if so,
a. What type of crime is it ? (i.e., a misdemeanor, felony, etc)?
b. For a 1st time offender usually what is the punishment (i.e. fine, community service, etc.)?
2. Once it is deemed that the report/complaint was false can the victim sue (in civil court) the person who made the complaint? If yes - what would be the basis (i.e. libel, slander, etc)?
Thank you.

Stephanie: police reports are not generally posted online in public fora so your skepticism won't be allayed anytime soon. But i think the skepticism is misplaced. I'm more concerned that the Halloran campaign seems to have vicious thugs roaming around like a band of pagan vikings. Maybe they're followers of his super-secret sect of which he is a King.

Now, now...lets leave Halloran's religion out of this.
There are quite a few residents in that area that really hate Asians though. In 2007, a handful of Asian males were assaulted by thugs in that district. Since that incident (and a few others) I am inclined to believe the volunteers.
I'm inclined to think that these volunteers were actual victims but fail to see that these perpetrators were of Halloran's...due to the location where the crime took place (across the school), and the time when it did....3:30pm, my only guess is that these were some punk kids who had some beef with the asians and decided to get into an afterschool brawl.
