Everyone Go Vote on Tuesday!

Times are changing and there are Korean-Americans running for political office in New York City.  In New York, we have P.J. Kim, Kevin Kim, and S.J. Jung all on the ballot for New York City Council seats in different districts.  We’ve personally spoken to P.J. Kim and Kevin Kim and both have shared how the journey has been an incredible experience.  It’s been tiring pounding the pavement, but they’ve been so energized by the people they have met.  So go rock the vote and get to the ballots on Tuesday if you’re living in New York City!

District 1, Lower Manhattan: This vibrant area from the Lower East Side to Wall Street and TriBeCa deserves a vibrant councilmember. Newcomer Jin “P.J.” Kim is a South Korean immigrant with degrees from Princeton and Harvard Business School. He has worked in business and more recently used his skills to manage and coordinate antipoverty programs. Other candidates include the incumbent Alan Gerson, an honorable public servant who has moved too uncertainly on vital issues; Margaret Chin, a community activist; and Pete Gleason, an anticrime candidate with few other credentials. We endorse Mr. Kim.

District 19, Northeast Queens: Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-Queens/L.I.) publicly announced his full support and endorsement of Kevin Kim’s candidacy for City Council in District 19.  When asked why he decided to endorse Kevin, Congressman Ackerman said, “These are extraordinary times in which we live. They are exciting times, full of hope and promise, but they are also scary times with challenges we have never seen before.  Very rarely have I ever come across a person of such intelligence, character, ability, dedication and wisdom all in one person of such a young and dynamic age as I have when I met Kevin Kim,” the Congressman continued. “Kevin is going to win this race. He is going to win because he is confident, cares about people, and he wants to give his life to serving his city and nation…and it is something that I find extremely admirable.”

District 20, Central Queens: Three promising candidates seek to replace John Liu, who is running for city comptroller. John Choe has Mr. Liu’s endorsement as his former chief of staff. S.J. Jung, a businessman, is a strong independent and an advocate for immigrants. James Wu is an inventive thinker and community activist. We endorse Mr. Jung as having the most potential.

We couldn't agree more with the headline. If you live in New York and are registered to vote, go out and do your civic duty! If you have time to help, go out and support you candidate. They could use help with poll monitoring and translations.
