CIVIC PARTICIPATION COORDINATOR
Job Description
The Korean Resource Center (KRC) seeks a hard-working, highly-skilled, talented, and committed individual to serve as its Civic Participation Coordinator. This is a position for an individual who has experience in community organizing and advocacy activities to develop and carry out comprehensive organizing efforts that advance KRC's programs and mission.
Major Responsibilities
o Coordinate KRC's electoral campaigns
o In constant discussion with staff, members and ally organizations, devise
larger strategies to increase civic participation and empower Korean American voters -
especially in areas of low organizational engagement such as Orange County.
o Create yearly and quarterly work plans for KRC's overall civic
participation program, and design or delegate campaign activity logistics.
o Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials for
voters
o Organize and manage volunteers for campaign activities
o Represent KRC on several statewide and national coalitions
. Organize, educate and grow a core group of voters from within the Korean
American community to lead KRC's voter education work
o Conduct outreach, recruit, and build long-term relationships with members
o With the assistance of partner organizations, build the skills and capacity of the voter group through constant political education and community organizing training
o In collaboration with the core voter group, coordinate political education efforts throughout the broader Korean American community
. Coordinate the annual Summer Youth Empowerment Program (SYEP)
o Recruit and select high school youth applicants for a two-month summer program
o In collaboration with other KRC staff, develop and implement a curriculum for high school youth that aims to increase their political awareness and civic participation
o Coordinate all activities and logistics for the Summer Youth Empowerment Program
. Support other KRC programs
o Participate in occasional KRC events and actions
Qualifications
. Commitment to civil rights, immigrant rights, social justice, and change through grassroots organizing
. Experience working in a community-based non-profit organization in the areas of policy advocacy and community education and organizing
. Experience working with Korean American, Asian Pacific American or immigrant communities
. Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work both independently
and under supervision
. Bachelor's degree or at least four years of work experience preferred
. Bilingual in Korean & English an asset but not required
Organization
KRC is a dynamic organization working to empower the Korean American community in Southern California through social services, education, culture, advocacy and organizing. KRC is an affiliate of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) along with another affiliate in Chicago. Major program areas include immigrant rights, health access, and civic engagement.
