It was terrific to see the LGBT communities participating for the first time in the recent NYC Chinatown Lunar New Year parade.

Although, the title of the article is somewhat erroneous. The LGBT community wasn't "invited" to participate. It was more like they insisted and fought to be included in the parade.
I also read a blog posting from You Offend Me You Offend My Family a couple of weeks ago that mentioned some controversy allowing Vietnamese LGBTs to participate in the Tet Parade in Little Saigon. Apparently, the local councilman Andy Quach and some religious leaders asked them not to participate because it was a "family event." The gay advocates refused and participated anyway. March on, I say! March on.
