LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

Manan Trivedi starts off with strong fundraising numbers

Great news out Philadelphia.  Congressional candidate Manan Trivedi, who was recently endorsed by APAP PAC, has just released his fundraising tally for his first quarter and he's raised over $110,000. Great job. To support Manan's candidacy, we've set up a fundraising page. Please consider donating to him.

Trivedi Establishes Strong Financial Support In Only 23 Days

A campaign built by 354 contributors to date.

Reading, Pa – After leaving his service in the U.S. Navy, Manan Trivedi entered the race for the 6th congressional district on September 7th. Today, Democratic candidate Trivedi announced that he has raised $110,533. His entry into the race was welcomed by lifelong friends in the community and Democratic leaders throughout Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Lehigh Counties. The groundswell of support for Trivedi has been expressed by 354 individual contributors who believe he is the strongest Democratic candidate to be our next Representative in Congress.

Manan Trivedi said, “After only three weeks into my campaign, I am heartened by the outpouring of support from my friends and family who are helping me build this effort; friends like Michael Schaeffer who I went to grade school with and who is now a local teacher.  I also received a generous contribution from Ruth Doherty, a dear friend of mine who is 90 years old and often checked in on my wife, Surekha, when I was serving in Iraq.  And one contribution that really meant a great deal to me was from a First Class Petty Officer who served with me on the front lines in Iraq as my senior medic.  I am proud to have him and all my other supporters by my side in this campaign.

“I always knew that this campaign was going to be tough.  Since I do not have the personal financial resources to fund an effort like this, I knew that I would have to rely on contributions from longtime friends and members of our community who share my passion for progressive change.

“Because 354 people have decided to put their hard-earned dollars behind my campaign, we are off to a very strong start. Given our pace in fundraising, I am confident that we will have the support necessary to deliver our message to voters in the 6th congressional district.”
