Aloha!

As the health care debate continues, I want to make sure you have access to accurate information surrounding our reform efforts in Congress.  I have created a Health Care Reform webpage, which I encourage you to visit.

As you may know, I participated in many constituent gatherings during the August District Work Period that primarily focused on the topic of health care reform.  I collected a great deal of input from people around Hawaii while also expressing my views on this critical subject.

There is no doubt that our health care system needs to be repaired.  For those who have it, health insurance is not something you can take for granted.  Every day 14,000 Americans lose their health insurance coverage.  A recent U.S. Treasury Department report noted that, approximately half of all Americans under the age of 65 will lose their health insurance coverage at some point over the next ten years.  And thousands are denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions like asthma, pregnancy, arthritis, or diabetes.  Millions more have no health insurance at all, including 72,000 people who live in my Congressional District.

President Obama spoke about how essential Health Care Reform is for Americans and for reducing our deficit.  I agree.
