This entry about Melissa Roxas has been overdue. In this first half of the year, 4 Asian American women were abducted while overseas. I'm sure you can name the journalists - Roxana Saberi, Euna Lee and Laura Ling. Have you heard about Melissa Roxas? She's not a journalist. She's a human rights advocate and U.S. Citizen, who was working to provide healthcare in the Philippines when she was abducted and tortured by the state military. Perhaps because she was not a journalist connected to the BBC, NPR, or Al Gore, Roxas' case has had no coverage in the mainstream media.
Roxas was recently freed, but she's gone back to the Philippines to fight back, so that the Philippine government and military won't get away with what they did. She's been bravely telling her story. In her press conference, Melissa bravely testifies about the experiences of torture she went through. She's seeking justice and asking her fellow U.S. citizens to help survivors of human rights violations seeking justice.
