MOCA is dedicated to reclaiming, preserving, and interpreting the history and culture of Chinese and their descendants in the United States. Through an ongoing and historical dialogue that shapes MOCA’s collections, programs and exhibitions, people of all backgrounds are able to explore the diversity and complexity of American history and culture, while gaining unique access to the images, papers, oral histories and artifacts which document the story.

 

The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) is seeking an experienced Director of Corporate Relations and Individual Giving to join its growing development team. S/he will identify and capitalize on opportunities to grow financial support from corporations and individual major donors to support the annual fund and special campaigns. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who will create and implement a comprehensive plan to identify, research, solicit and steward corporate and major donor prospects. The Director of Corporate Relations and Individual Giving, in collaboration with the Museum’s Director, Director of Development, and Board of Trustees will identify program priorities and develop strategies to achieve goals.


Essential Duties:

Overview

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward new corporate partnerships, while understanding the marketing and business needs of corporate partners.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive plan to attract new individual donors, as well as increase current donors’ support for and engagement with MOCA for the long-term.

Corporate Relations

  • Make initial outreach and schedule face-to-face meetings with prospective corporate funders to discuss MOCA and present Museum’s program needs. Must be comfortable initiating discussions with business professionals at all levels and soliciting support both in person and over the phone.
  • Significantly expand revenue from workplace giving (employee giving programs), matching gifts from corporate partners, and corporate membership.
  • Write corporate requests, sponsorship proposals and final reports, including working with program staff to create budgets.
  • Track and report corporate donor prospecting activities.
  • Solicit corporate sponsorships for fundraising events.
  • Develop creative giving opportunities for corporate donors/prospects.
  • Strengthen relationships with current corporate partners.
  • Participate in strategy meetings for MOCA Young Professionals and how to tap their corporate networks.

Individual Giving

  • Develop portfolio of prospects, including research and cultivation of donors capable of giving in the 5-7+ figure range.
  • Directly solicit individuals, close on gifts, and develop and ensure follow through on donor acknowledgment and retention efforts.
  • Coordinate the development and tracking of annual strategies, budgets, and schedules related to major giving efforts.
  • Develop creative giving programs for individual donors.
  • Plan and manage special cultivation events and presentations, targeting individual donors.
  • Support the Director’s and Trustees’ work and communications with major donors, including managing donor solicitation, stewardship schedules, and records.
  • Work with Development Department as well as Curatorial and Programs to ensure integration between departments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 5+ years in Corporate Fundraising and/or Individual Giving
  • Proven successful track record of meeting/exceeding corporate fundraising goals and successfully soliciting 5 – 6 figure unrestricted gifts from corporations; Strong familiarity with the corporate and philanthropic community in New York
  • Proven success in securing major gifts from individuals in the 5-7 figures
  • Experience with strategic planning for growing corporate and individual funding; Knowledge of traditional and non-traditional fundraising research techniques; Knowledge of and experience in implementing advanced fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Superior presentation and interpersonal skills, and the capacity to inspire and motivate individual donors and prospects
  • Confident communicator
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment and to juggle multiple priorities
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Attention to detail

Special consideration given to individuals with:

  • Bilingual fluency in Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) and English a plus;
  • Familiarity and/or comfort with database and information management systems, such as Raisers Edge;
  • Background in Arts & Culture, Museums, and/or Business; and
  • Understanding of Chinese American national community
