News Hits

Here's a quick rundown on recent articles on Judy Chu, Van Tran, Sam Yoon and the upcoming census:

• From the Los Angeles Times, we have an article on the ethnic politics of the race for CA-32 featuring Asian American Judy Chu and Latino Gil Cedillo.  I really hope it doesn't come down to simply voting for a candidate because they're from your same ethnic and/or racial category.  I mean I would never vote for a politician just because they're Asian.

• Speaking of which, Van Tran is set to run against Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez in the 47th Congressional District. Van is seen as a rising star in the Republican Party, but that's not saying much these days.  In fact, Van got his campaign off on the wrong foot by holding his kick-off announcement in the wrong district.

• It looks like the economic downturn has a direct impact on our community as the U.S. Census reports that the growth of Hispanic, Asian Population has slowed unexpectedly.  With fewer Asians coming to this country, we'll have to work harder to increase our political clout and visibility.

• There is some recent polling  out of Boston on City Councilor Sam Yoon's bid to become the city's first Asian American mayor.  Frankly, the numbers look rough.
