LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

Nominate Your College Or University To Be Recognized As One Of The "Best Colleges and Universities for AAPI Student Activism"

It’s almost that time of year again… Back to School, and those news magazines’ national rankings of colleges and universities.  But as you high schoolers and community college students begin asking yourself, “What is the best campus for me?” Asian Pacific Americans for Progress and Angry Asian Man are teaming up to help you out.  We’re presenting the “Best Colleges and Universities for AAPI Student Activism” list.  As far as we know, this will be the only list of this kind.  A. Magazine published a list once, way back in 2000, but it was really focused on AAPI representation on campuses, and of course that privileged places on the coasts and Hawaii.  This list will highlight the best post-secondary, bachelor’s degree granting (liberal arts colleges, universities, etc.) institutions of higher learning for YOU… the AAPI out there who is interested in learning about and contributing toward the advancement of AAPI communities!

Do you think your campus has what it takes to be on this list?  This is a call out to all you current college students, recent college grads, and even faculty and staff… if you think your campus community is a great place for AAPI students to earn their bachelor’s degrees and to cut their teeth as progressive AAPI community leaders, fill out the nomination form by August 28, 2009.  Our panel of reviewers will then evaluate your sumbissions.  If your campus is one of the best, it will be featured in September on both Asian Pacific Americans for Progress and Angry Asian Man, and you'll win some priceless bragging rights!

Everyone who submits a nomination by the deadline will be entered into a raffle to win a DVD copy of Vincent Who? and 5 Blacklava t-shirts. So get those nominations in by August 28!!  If you have any questions, contact spamfriedrice@apaforprogress.org.
