Thank you for inviting me to APAP! I was proud to participate in APAP's Vincent Chin event, and I'm happy to be posting here. I'm a total fan of APAP.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of doing a podcast with Sam Yoon, who is running to become mayor of Boston. You can hear the podcast and read my full opinion here. Even if you are in the other camp, he's got a lot to share about his experience being the first Asian American ever to run for public office in Boston, and I am hoping that he has the opportunity to serve Boston as its first Asian American mayor.
My short version is this: Sam Yoon is a straight-talker with some big ideas on education and change, and we all--Bostonians and non-Bostonians alike--will benefit from his leadership. It's clear from our discussion that he has put a lot of time and thought into his candidacy and his role as an Asian American leader, and I hope you all will support him. If you look at the analysis here, the important thing will be to get people to vote. Low voter turnouts in Boston often benefit the old boy incumbents, so if you have a network in Boston, whether through your social circle, affiliation clubs, or even Facebook, encourage people to get out and vote! If you don't have a network, check out samyoon.com and learn how you can donate to his cause. Or do both. Let's get Sam elected!
Thanks for posting, Byron. We're amazed at the great stuff you're all doing in Oregon and look forward to continue working with you. Feel free to post up on other progressive issues when you feel like it!
Thanks, Curtis! I actually wasn't planning on doing a mass promotion of Mr. Yoon, but he truly blew me away during the podcast with his thoughts on education and multiculturalism, and since I'm a blogger, I don't have to be unbiased
. Looking forward to working more with you guys!
