Remember to let us know what you think of our newest feature. vin-gopal What is your name? Vin Gopal What is your current position? Fundraising and Development Consultant with Direct Development, LLC What are some interesting jobs you have had in the past? I was the Deputy Campaign Manager & Senior Aide for Congressman Dennis Kucinich's congressional and presidential campaigns. I had the opportunity to attend and coordinate the logistics for all the 2008 presidential debates, organized over 40 fundraisers with the opportunity to travel around the country. I've also worked in the Washington D.C. press office of Sen. Ted Kennedy – a great experience to work on Capitol Hill. I've enjoyed working as a campaign manager, finance director and press secretary on numerous campaigns in New Jersey, Ohio, New York, Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. What is your educational background? B.A. In Political Science from Penn State University What skills do you think are necessary for your job? Just hard work and dedication, taking a lot of entry-level jobs learning the trade before going off on my own. Anyone can be successful at fundraising. How did you get your start? I was hired as a legislative aide to two New Jersey State Assembly members while in college. I volunteered in evenings organizing the assemblyman's fundraisers. Do you have any role models? Various people I meet and see everyday who have courage. Describe your typical day. I spend the mornings focusing on my businesses (I own and operate a local newspaper chain and a couple other businesses I've been growing over the years). In the afternoons, I focus on creating call sheets (for clients to make fundraising calls) and focus on preparation for events. Who is your favorite politician? Congressman Dennis Kucinich – even for those who disagree with him, he's one of the most principled politicians in America. What do you do with your free time? I am active in local politics in Central Jersey, serving in my hometown as Democratic Party Municipal Chairman, helping to try to get local candidates elected. I spend a lot of time on my businesses, giving me little free time though. I enjoy playing poker, being an avid Nittany Lions fan and spending time with family and friends.
