Middle School Teacher and Personal Trainer
What is your educational background?
I have a B.A. in English Literature and teaching credential from UC San Diego and a J.D. from Southwestern Law School. I am also a student of life.
What skills do you think are necessary for your job?
Ultimately, you need the ability to create strong relationships with your grantors by proving to be a good steward of funds. In addition, it would help if you had a fabulous memory, were detail-oriented, organized, and a problem solver.
How did you get your start?
I went to the Hollywood Bowl with some friends and met somebody that worked in the Mayor's Office. She told me about the opportunity, I applied and now it's been over three years.
Do you have any role models?
I have many role models, but I want to acknowledge my parents as my character role models. They are people that live lives of integrity, honesty, humility and decency and they have been a strong influence in my life.
Describe your typical day.
My typical day can consist of phone calls and emails to grantors at the State and in D.C.;
attending local City Council hearings; reviewing reports; and meetings with my grant team, city depts and grant recipients.
Who are your favorite politicians?
President Barack Obama, Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Mayor Cory Booker, and D.C.Chancellor Michelle Rhee. I know that Chancellor Rhee isn't a politician, but she is doing such a great job that I think she should run for office.
What do you do with your free time?
Movies, golf, and reading.
