President Barack Obama will meet a group of Democratic Senators on Sunday on Capital Hill. The senators have been hoping that President Obama would provide a direction for them as they discuss the healthcare bill. Senator Brown of Ohio has been publicly urging President Obama to take a lead in order to pass a bill that includes a public option by Christmas.
"I’d like to hear him push what we’re doing," Senator Brown said. "I like the bill now the way it is, the president pushing the people who are more reluctant to vote for it, to vote for it."
Democratic Senators are crafting a proposal that would garner 60 votes to pass a healthcare bill. They are also trying to consider ideas that would include a vote from one Republican, Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine.
“As long as both sides are willing to give a little, we can meet in the middle,” said Democratic Senator Tom Harkin of Iwoa. “It may not be exactly what I’d like and exactly what they’d like, but we’ll meet in the middle somewhere.”
It is unclear when the Senators will reach a compromise but hopefully President Obama will provide enough support in order to pass a bill with at least 60 votes that includes a public option.
