APAP NEWS
1. APAP is kicking off our Summer of Change, starting with a Bay Area fundraiser on August 18 to our AAPI Grassroots Strategy Session with Congressman Mike Honda at the Democratic National Convention on August 26! Please see the Calendar of Events for more details about these and more upcoming events!
2. On August 9, the Obama Campaign recently announced in a press release new members of the
Asian American and
Pacific Islanders (AAPI) for Obama Leadership Council, a group that was established in October 2007. The AAPI leadership council consists of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders leaders and activists from across the nation, representing every sector of our society, including community, nonprofit, entertainment, business, government, law, academia and media. 3. APAP board member Clarence Tong writes in with an update on the Asian American Civic Project. On August 2, the Civic Project Fellows completed their week-long training at the Emily’s List Campaign School in
Washington DC, and have been sent off to their placements in
Minnesota,
Illinois,
Washington State,
Nevada, and

4. APAP is currently searching for a new e-mail list management service that can handle our current volume of e-mail addresses. Join special guest Congressman Mike Honda, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and National Vice Chair of the Democratic Party, and co-hosts San Francisco school board member and Board of Supervisors candidate Eric Mar, Campbell City Councilmember Evan Low, Calif. Democratic Party APIA Caucus Secretary Levin Sy, former Cupertino Mayor Michael Chang, Cate Park, Anderson Le, Tim Tom and Linda Lu Nordling at a fundraiser for the Asian American Civic Project (apapipeline.org), a new political training and placement program for Asian American and Pacific Islander recent college graduates. The project is run by the APA for Progress PAC under the leadership of Clarence Tong.

6. Fall 2008 - Nationwide - Vincent Who? Premiere. This fall, APAP will premiere its first film, Vincent Who? at film festivals and college campuses around the country. The film is about the impact of the Vincent Chin case on the development of an Asian American community. It explores coalition building, hate crimes and poliitcal empowerment. If you would like to bring the film and filmmakers to your school or community group, please contact us.
