After a see-saw night where the lead kept switching back and forth, Raja Krishnamoorthi has finally conceded the Democratic primary race for Illinois Comptroller. Despite raising over a million dollars and being a friend of Obama, Raja was unable to squeak past Illinois State Senator David Miller. From NBC News:
"A little while ago, I called David Miller to congratulate him on becoming the Democratic nominee for Illinois State Comptroller," said Krishnamoorthi in an e-mail message to supporters. "This is not the outcome we had hoped for, and we all wish last night and today would have included a victory celebration. Indeed, we came within a whisker of winning."
By late Wednesday evening, Miller had widened his lead to over 8,300 votes.
Miller will face GOP nominee Judy Baar Topinka in the general election.
However, two-time candidate Dan Seals was able to win the Democratic nomination in the 10th Congressional District. APAP PAC had a paid fellow in Seals last campaign. Let's hope the third time's a charm.
Seals greeted a jubilant crowd at his victory party at the Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove saying was he was honored by the grassroots support he received within the district while stressing his independence.
Seals set a high priority on getting people back to work and increasing local economic development.
In this November's election, Seals will have the advantage of name recognition, having run against Kirk in the last two general elections, losing by narrow margins.
"I called Dan Seals and said, 'Tomorrow we become one big Democratic family again'," Hamos told the Journal at her election night party in Deerfield on Tuesday, Feb. 2, saying she would support Seals' candidacy.
She thanked supporters for running an issue orientated campaign saying she fought a great uphill battle of a campaign that came close to winning.
"I have no regrets," said Hamos.
