Louisiana Attorney and Democrat Ravi Sangisetty officially announced his candidacy for Congress today. He's running in an open seat that being vacated by Democrat Charlie Melancon. As we reported earlier, Ravi has raised the most money so far in this race. Here's the press release from his campaign.
I am very pleased to announce my candidacy for United States Representative for Louisiana's Third Congressional District.
I enter this race today with this goal in mind: to hold the political process accountable to the people of South Louisiana. The problems we face as a unique region—whether coastal restoration, hurricane protection, education, health care, or the economy—are too urgent to allow the current state of politics to continue.
So, in this campaign, my pledge is to raise the level of dialogue above unproductive partisan rhetoric and to propose real reforms that will make the federal government responsive to our voices and our needs.
Our urgent problems demand thoughtful, practical, and fact-based solutions. Both in this race and in Washington, I will bring to the table a strong background in federal law and policy, and the passion and energy necessary to stand up for our region. More importantly, I will bring a humility that respects and represents the views and values of our people.
I am so moved by the warm reception to my candidacy in recent weeks. I am proud to count among my supporters men and women of various backgrounds and professions, Democrat and Republican. With their help, we have exceeded even my most optimistic fund-raising goals and begin this race with over $200,000 in our campaign fund.
I look forward to this race with much enthusiasm, and I welcome a spirited debate about our district's challenges. It is with great pride that I call South Louisiana my home and with great humility that I ask for a chance to serve.

I live in the 3rd district of Louisiana and am very interested in learning more about Mr. Sangisetty. I am a Republican but will vote for the candidate I think will best represent the people and issues most important to South Louisiana. I know very little about Mr. Sangisetty thus far but what I have read to this point has me interested in learning more.
