HOSTING A PARTY

Consider hosting a party. It's easy. Just gather 12-20 friends, family members or co-workers and call into our conference call. You can even provide snacks or make it a potluck. On the call, each guest will speak for a few minutes and then take a question or two. Afterwards, we hope you and the attendees at your party will discuss what issues are important to you and then to write up a report and post it on the APAP website with pictures. This will become a record of the issues that AAPI's around the country are talking about. We'll even submit a report to the Obama administration.

Chinese American Citizens Alliance's AAPI House Party

May 2, 2010, Los Angeles Chinatown

Thirteen enthusiastic members attended the house party on May 2, 2010 at the Los Angeles Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (organized in 1912).  We found that issues presented by the panelists are important and information they shared helpful.  Two main topics of our discussion are: 1) Immigration reform, and 2) adequate API representation within the court system on all government levels.  We emphasized our support for legal immigration and the importance of family reunification, at the same time we were concerned about the children of undocumented immigrants, and expressed our support for the passage of the DREAM ACT.  The participants were extremely interested in endorsing the two Federal judgeship nominations and wished to urge Senate to approve the nominees Goodwin Liu and Edward Chen in a timely manner.  Subsequently, a team of 15 delegates travelled to Washington D.C. and presented the Alliance’s positions for our lawmaker’s consideration.

More sufficient time for the panelists as well as Q & A session would be beneficial to our participants.  Thank you very much for the opportunity.
