SERCAAL 2009 Returns to the UF on Oct. 9-10!

After a year interlude, SERCAAL, the Southeast Regional Conference of Asian American Leaders, will return to the University of Florida to bring to light issues concerning Asian Pacific American (APA) students in the southeastern region of the United States and to encourage and stimulate dialogue. SERCAAL seeks to create a network to unite established mentors, business leaders, activists and other APA pioneers in order to nurture education, advocacy, and accomplishment.

SERCAAL was created six years ago by the ACTION Committee of the Asian American Student Union, using the East Coast Asian American Student Union as a rough guideline and seeking to bring the benefits of that conference to the southeast. With the goal of education and shedding light on Asian American issues in the southeast region in mind, SERCAAL encourages networking between the next generations of leaders and hopes to attract students from all kinds of backgrounds.

The conference will be held October 9th-10th with our theme "Collaborate, Challenge, Change." This reflects SERCAAL's mission to promote issues pertaining to our generation and what can be done in our community today through educating and empowering students to take the initiative. SERCAAL will take place at the University of Florida at the Reitz Union starting at 4 PM Friday, October 9th. Some speakers that will be in attendance include Lina Hoshino, Calvin Sun, Jim Toy, Corky Lee and many others. A full list is available on our website. SERCAAL will also be featuring entertainment by Kate Rigg, an Asian comedian known for her gigs on networks such as Comedy Central, vH1 and NBC.

Attending the conference will provide a unique opportunity to meet and learn from established APA activists, build a network of student leaders who share common interests, and stimulate change. Registration is open through SERCAAL's website, www.SERCAAL.net
