Hank Johnson (D-GA) is my Congressional Representative. I'm impressed with his rapid response to my email and the length of his reply.
APA for Progress has discussed this issue previously and provided guidance for action.
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for HR 760, the Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2007. The Philippine Scouts were a group of military officers that proudly served under the U.S. Army's Philippine Division for nearly half of the 20th century.
Their service to our country's defense of freedom for all nations is one in which they risked their lives and fought with bravery. Many of the scouts would go on to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, become U.S. citizens, and serve in other American conflicts such as the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War.
I am a proud co-sponsor of HR 760 as it recognizes the organized military forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Scouts for their active military service for purposes, making them eligible for veterans' benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
This bill has been referred to the House Veterans Affairs' Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs and I look forward to supporting it when it comes before the House of Representatives for a vote.
I am always eager to hear your concerns and look forward to working with you in the future. For more information, please visit my office online at HankJohnson.House.gov. Thank you again for contacting me.
Sincerely,
Hank Johnson
