S.J. Jung suspends campaign

City Council Candidate S.J. Jung Announces Discontinuation of his Campaign for November General Elections

Flushing, New York – S.J. Jung announced his decision to discontinue his campaign for the City Council District 20 seat in the general elections.

S.J. Jung stated, Although my name will still appear on the ballot on the Working Families Party Line in the November general elections, I have decided to discontinue my City Council campaign and to serve our district through community service and grassroots advocacy.  I do so after a great deal of deliberation, and despite encouragement from many supporters and allies, because I do not believe that a third-party candidacy will best serve the interests of our community at this time. To my family, my staff team and numerous volunteers, I am incredibly grateful for your support.  We ran a strong, positive and unifying campaign, but unfortunately fell just short of winning the Democratic nomination, coming in second by 183 votes.

Although this is not the outcome we hoped for, I am very proud of our campaign’s achievements.  We galvanized people, not simply because our campaign stayed positive, but because we crossed racial and ethnic lines to bring diverse constituencies together on the issues that matter most.  Together, our campaign articulated a unifying vision for our entire district – to promote smart and sustainable growth, revitalize the Flushing River waterfront, increase affordable housing, create good jobs, stimulate small businesses, provide better education and preserve the livability of our neighborhoods.

We also challenged the culture of “politics as usual” in city government.  We demanded a new culture of accountability to the ordinary people in our district.  And in doing so, we brought hope to many residents who were growing frustrated and cynical.

These are accomplishments of which we should all be proud – accomplishments that would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of all of you.  Even though I will not have the opportunity to represent the residents of District 20 on the City Council this time, I will continue, just as I have for the past twenty years, to be a fierce and tireless advocate for the community on the critical issues highlighted by our campaign.  Armed with the hope and vision we forged together, I look forward to opportunities in the future to work with all of you.”

Despite the discontinuation of the campaign, S.J. Jung’s name will still appear on the November ballot on the Working Families Party line, on Row E, together with Bill Thompson for Mayor, John Liu forComptroller, and Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate.

That's really too bad -- SJ would have been a very progressive, forceful voice on the City Council.

Peter Koo, by far has done more for the community than Yen Chou.  The choice should be obvious now given that SJ isn't running.

Peter koo is definitely the best choice for this general election. He has the honesty, integrity, principle, and experience to represent the people of Flushing.  Like many of us, he worked and still works hard to achieve his goals. He has been helping our community ever since he established in Flushing. He is a role model that anyone can identify with and a great example for the young generation. Yen Chou in the other hand, is not really clean in what she claim of herself.  She said she was a teacher for CUNY. In reality, she never qualified as a professor to teach in any NYS public school.  She tutored for a while in Queens Borough Community College because of a donation given by Sam Chan. And of her non-profit school, it is a lie. She does charge students a fee and not just a fee, but 2 to 3 times more that other similar school. The reason, she claims that she is the only one who has materials and test that will help students to improve their scores. She uses her name to push her business. Also, as s US citizen it is ones responsibility to vote. She did not for the last ten years and not even in her own primary!!! She does enroll in different associations but almost never attend? From here, we can see what kind of person she is.  How can we trust in someone like her the future of our community? The future of district 20 will be lost.  I'm an independent and I'm so proud to vote for Peter Koo this coming November 3.  I really wish him and Flushing good luck. Please, don't vote because you belong to this or that party.  Vote from your heart, who you think the best for the seat. If you just vote like Yen Chou suggested "vote for your party" then it shows that you are just another follower, someone without dream nor aspiration, someone who does not know what he/she wants nor who he/she is. Lest vote for the best; Peter koo.  And, not everything is bad. Not because someone is a republican he/she is bad. Likewise, because he/she is democrat he/she is good. Yes, Peter koo is a republican. But, he is a person of pure honesty, integrity, and excellent principle. He is one of the nicest people one can ever meet. If he wins, he will not have to pay back to no one. He will just work hard to make Flushing better and better. He is not after the money or to take advantages of the seat like others. To proof this, last week he announced that if he wins, he will use his entire salary to help district 20. There are lots of community centers that need help because they are non-profit and do not get much help from the government. Thank you everyone.Laughing
