(Clarkston, GA) -- The Karen Community of Georgia issued a press release inviting the public to participate in a Solidarity Walk on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 5 p.m. to commemorate the life of Pa Lee Klo, a twenty-year-old Karen refugee who was senselessly killed last week in a driveby shooting outside of his home in Clarkston in Dekalb County, Georgia.
Dekalb County is home to one of the largest refugee populations in the South. The community has been increasingly concerned by the growing violence in the Clarkston apartment houses where Pa Lee Klo was killed.
The Solidarity Walk will also serve to help the community come together and address the growing public safety issues in their community.

Clarkston, GA—On Sunday, August 15 at 5:00 pm, members of the Karen Community of Georgia and others in the community will gather to walk in solidarity with the family of Pa Lee Klo who was tragically and senselessly murdered last Friday night. The walk will begin and end at the Clarkston International Bible Church, 3895 Church Street, Clarkston, GA 30021. The purpose of the walk is to show respect for the life of this young man, and to remind us that life-threatening violence is very real, and that members of our community must support and help each other to be safe.
Pa Lee Klo was walking on Jolly Avenue in Clarkston, from his home to a neighboring apartment complex to visit friends, when a car drove by and an unidentified person began shooting out the window at people in the street. He was almost immediately killed.
Pa Lee Klo was 20 years old, and arrived in the United States this past year as a legal refugee, having been forced out of his home country of Myanmar (Burma) because of that military dictatorship’s political and cultural persecution. He is survived by his mother, who still resides in a refugee camp in Thailand, and his brother and sister-in-law, with whom he came to the U.S.
This terrible murder is one in a series of violent incidents that have increasing plagued the residents of Clarkston-area apartment complexes.
