State of Republican AAPIs

It has not been a good past couple of weeks for Republican AAPIs. [gallery] First there was the news out of LA that Anh Cao, the freshman representative  who succeeded William Jefferson in the LA-02 race, is facing a recall petition. Then came LA governor Bobby Jindal's now-infamous response to President Obama's State of the Nation on Tuesday, which is being widely panned even by members of his own party (see Governor Jindal, Rising G.O.P. Star, Plummets After Speech, How Bad Was Jindal? and Bobby Jindal: EPIC FAIL). Now we have Steve Austria (OH-7) not knowing basic U.S. history:
U.S. Rep. Steve Austria said he supports a scaled-down federal economic-stimulus proposal, but the Beavercreek Republican told The Dispatch editorial board that the huge influx of money into the economy could have a negative effect. “When (President Franklin) Roosevelt did this, he put our country into a Great Depression,” Austria said. “He tried to borrow and spend, he tried to use the Keynesian approach, and our country ended up in a Great Depression. That’s just history.” Most historians date the beginning of the Great Depression at or shortly after the stock-market crash of 1929; Roosevelt took office in 1933.
Perhaps the Hindu scholars who offered redemption to Mike Myers for "The Love Guru" can do the same for these folks?

Last time I checked, Keynesian economics has played a huge role in ending every recession in modern U.S. history, from the New Deal to World War II to Ronald Reagan's military spending spree. Those of you from military towns know that bases are some of the biggest employers in that area. Right wingers are just as Keynesian as liberals. They just differ in where the government spending should go. Don't let anybody on the right or left tell you otherwise.
