Various news reports have confirmed that Nobel prize winning physicist and director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Steven Chu is President-Elect Obama's choice for Secretary of Energy. If chosen, Chu would one of the only people to hold the position with direct professional experience with energy and related issues (as opposed to the career politicians who typically have held the position). Chu has also been particularly outspoken on the need to develop alternative energy sources and to fight global warming.
This summer, Dr. Chu, spoke at the National Energy Summit hosted by Sen. Harry Reid and the Center for American Progress Action Fund. He discussed climate change and clean energy technologies and why he shifted his own research from lasers to global warming. Hat tip to Shawn in ShowMe.
