LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

House Party Schedule

1.) SCHEDULE FOR MAY 2ND CALL

Please note the call will start at 1:30 pm Pacific or 4:30 pm Eastern and will last for approximately 30 minutes. Since your party starts at the top of the hour, that will give you guests 30 minutes to arrive late and/or settle in and review any materials you may have for them. That leaves the second hour of the event for your guests to stay and talk.

1.) INTRODUCTIONS - APAP (1 minute)

2.) WHITE HOUSE (10 minutes)

ECAASU 2010: What it means to be APIA in America

Many students have spent these past few days in the library studying for midterms and writing papers, and although I shall now be joining them in doing so as well, I’ve spent these past few days at the East Coast Asian-American Student Union’s 2010 Conference and have come out with a greater understanding of what it means to be an Asian-American, of America, of the place of APIA’s in America, and of humanity as a whole.

Too Much At Stake for Complacency - A Call to Action for Immigration Reform

Look at "those illegals,” my friend said jokingly while he was dropping me off to the Bart Station. He pointed at two Mexican immigrants standing against the fence. Although it was a joke, I was extremely angry. Yet, I was defenseless and vulnerable. I simply laughed with him and stayed casual as if nothing happened. Once he dropped me off, I wondered if he would treat me differently if he knew that I’m also “illegal.”

2010 Census Outreach to Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

Happy New Year! It's 2010, and no matter how you say it -- "two thousand and ten" or "twenty-ten" -- the new year brings one very important matter -- THE 2010 CENSUS!!!

Over the holidays, I noticed a good number of press releases and news items about efforts by AAPI community organizations to encourage, but I'm thinking that most of us were in the holiday mood, and could use a reminder of what's happening!

Lunch with Houston Mayor Bill White, Democratic Candidate for US Senate
