LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

9500 Liberty Workshop and Screening

On November 14, 2009, I attended a workshop and screening of 9500 Liberty that was a part of the Austin Asian American Film Festival. Both the screening and workshop were held at the Mexican American Cultural Center, and I was able to go with my organization, the Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective (APAC) from The University of Texas at Austin.

9500 Liberty, winner of the Charlotte Film Festival Best Documentary Award, will be premiering in DC on Thursday, October 1st, the opening night of DC APA Film Festival. At 9:30, after the screening, there will be a rooftop opening night festival party. It should be great fun. Some of the "stars" in the film will be in attendance.
