Hanabusa and Trivedi Gain Support

Here's a new press release from the DCCC.  They've just added two Asian American progressives to their list of candidates they'll be supporting in the fall: Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01) and Manan Trivedi (PA-06). Both candidates are trying to take over red seats and both have been endorsed by APAP.

Ami Bera and Raj Goyle make the list

Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced the first round of candidates selected for the prestigious “Red to Blue” program that targets GOP-held districts. It's awesome that the list includes two Asian American candidates: Ami Bera who is running in CA-03 and Raj Goyle who is running in KS-04.


Asian Americans top most expensive campaigns for NY City Council

Asian Americans running for office in New York City had a banner year this past cycle, not just with the record-number of candidates, but also the amount of money they raised. In fact, the three most expensive campaigns for New York City Council were all run by Asian Americans: Kevin Kim, Yen Chou and Peter Koo.

Happy Veteran's Day, folks. Just got this press release from our friends at APIAVote, the non-partisan organization dedicated to registering Asian American and Pacific Islander voters. It included a really extensive list of AAPI candidates running across the country. Surya Yalamanchili becomes sixth South Asian to run for Congress

Add reality-TV contestant Surya Yalamanchili to the growing list of South Asians running for Congress.


Leland Cheung elected to Cambridge City Council

Here's another history-making Asian American candidate from Tuesday's elections. Leland Cheung became the first Asian American elected to the Cambridge City Council. As a joint candidate at both MIT and Harvard, Cheung definitely has the educational background.

Lloyd Hara, Marilyn Stickland results and other AAPI candidates in WA

There were five Asian Americans running for office in Washington on Tuesday. It's a mixed bag of results with two clear winners and two more still in tight counting. The inside scoop from our friend Kristina Logsdon in Seattle:

The race that's probably gotten the most attention after newly-elected New York City Comptroller John Liu has been that of Margaret Chin in her long journey to become the City Councilmember representing New York's Chinatown. Asian American candidates fundraising numbers

In the 2010 election cycle so far, six Asian Americans have officially announced their candidacies for Congress, not including the seven incumbents. We've reported on a few of the fundraising numbers already, but here's a handy chart that includes all their numbers for these challengers (and their key opponents) as of 9/30/2009.
