LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

Hansen Clarke joins Governor's race in MI

Here's an interesting development out of my home state. This past week, Lt. Gov. John Cherry, the presumed favorite, withdrew from the race for Governor of Michigan. That has opened up a floodgate of new candidates, including progressive State Senator Hansen Clarke. Sen. Clarke was kind enough to join us at the kick off of our APAP Chapter in Detroit last year. We definitely look forward to supporting him as well.

Over 800 supporters attended a crowded Chinatown restaurant in downtown Los Angeles last night to help Congressmember Judy Chu win her first re-election campaign in 2010. The campaign didn't say how much they raised, but I am sure it was a good amount as tickets were going for at least $150 each.

If you've ever been to San Francisco, you'll know that finding a good parking space is always an issue. However, destroying the limited affordable housing in favor of new parking structures is not the answer.

Judy Chu co-sponsors Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Congressmember Judy Chu (CA-32) was always a great advocate for lesbian and gay equal rights during her time in the California Assembly. It's no surprise to us that she would be stepping up once again, now that she is in Congress. Here's a press release she just sent out.
