2010 Census Outreach to Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

Happy New Year! It's 2010, and no matter how you say it -- "two thousand and ten" or "twenty-ten" -- the new year brings one very important matter -- THE 2010 CENSUS!!!

Over the holidays, I noticed a good number of press releases and news items about efforts by AAPI community organizations to encourage, but I'm thinking that most of us were in the holiday mood, and could use a reminder of what's happening!

News has been pretty slow during the holiday season, but here's an article from the Boston Globe on newly-elected Cambridge City Councilman Leland Cheung. Our APAP volunteers in Boston have been in contact with Cheung about organizing a meet-and-greet in the coming new year. Sam Yoon Still In It; Running as Deputy Mayor on Flaherty Ticket

Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon may not have made it to the second stage of the mayoral election in November, but don't count him out yet. In a historic move, Yoon will be campaigning with Michael Flaherty on an innovative "joint ticket" with Flaherty for Mayor and Yoon for Deputy Mayor.  The "unusual partnership," announced this morning at City Hall by the candidates, is believed to be a first, according to the Boston Globe.

Sam Yoon Edged Out in Mayoral Primary Election

This past Tuesday, Boston held a preliminary election.  The two top vote getters - Tom Menino (51%) and Michael Flaherty (24%) - will face off in the November Runoff election for Mayor.  Yoon came in with a respectable 21% of the votes.
