John Liu for City Comptroller Update

As we all know, New York City Councilman John Liu won his primary last Tuesday, besting a competitive field with 38% of the vote for the office of City Comptroller. Unfortunately, Liu barely missed the 40% necessary to avoid a run-off with second place finisher David Yasskey, so the two top finishers have to face off in a Democratic run-off on Sept. 29th.  Here's an update of links that the campaign sent out earlier today.

In a Democratic Primary Election for New York City Comptroller held today, 09/11/09, John Liu finishes first with 34% of the vote, according to this latest exclusive WABC-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA -- near, but not at, the 40% trigger that would avoid a September 30 runoff for the top two finishers.

Dear Friend, It's confirmed! Joined by a broad and diverse base of supporters, Councilman John Liu formally announced his campaign to serve as the next Comptroller of the City of New York. “Now more than ever, we need a Comptroller who will root out waste and inefficiency as budget cuts are imposed, and ensure accountability and equal opportunity as billions in stimulus funding arrive," John said earlier today. "With my professional background in finance and my experience in city government, combined with my demand for fairness and equality, I will be that Comptroller. I will be the Comptroller who will scrutinize the details without losing sight of the big picture." Tune in TONIGHT to see/hear John talk about his plans: 6:30 PM (EST) on WCBS Channel 2 News (11:00 PM if basketball game goes overtime), and 11:00 PM (EST) on 98.7 KISS-FM Radio Also, attached are reports about John's campaign. Here's some interesting news out of the Big Apple about New York City Council member John Liu's race for Public Advocate. It turns out, he may not be running for that office after all. According to this article in the NY Politicker, there is a rumor that:

John Liu was dropping out of the public advocate’s race and going to announce on on Sunday that he’s running for comptroller instead.

To back up the rumor, it seems he's contacted the Campaign Finance Board to change the office he is seeking to undetermined.
