How Democrats will lose their message wars

If you haven't yet read The Political Brain by Drew Westen, you should. It's a book, based on well-established psychological principles, on how the Democrats consistently lose the messaging wars with Republicans. In a nutshell, the book argues that Dems constantly frame their arguments in dry, coldly rational policy language while Reps use evocative, emotion-laden terms designed to prime their audience's brains.

The last time us gays marched on Washington was the semi-disastrous march in 2000 organized by the HRC. Before that was the 1993 march when I was 12. This year and this march was our time; the newly dubbed "prop 8" generation. This year's march was not without controversy with internal naysayers and questioners all the way to the top including Barney Frank.


Minorities are half of DADT dismissals

I always thought it was interesting how some of the most high-profile victims of the Pentagon's heinous "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy were people of color (Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, Lt. Dan Choi, Second Lt. Sandy Tsao).
