LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

AAPIs represent at the March for America in DC

It's been reported that about 200k people showed up on the National Mall today for a historic precendence (take that Tea Party!) to keep President Obama accountable to his promise to pass an Immigration Reform bill. AAPI groups represented in full force from all over the country. Starting from the AAPI constituency pre-rally at noon, advocates and activists joined supporters on the national mall in the blazing sun to demand Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2010. Debrief the March with us: http://bit.ly/CIRforAAPIs

DC - Support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act!

Help end job discrimination!

It’s 2010, and in the majority of the country, there are no legal protections from workplace discrimination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people!

This will change with the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a federal bill that will ban job discrimination nationwide on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.  We have the votes in Congress, we have a president who will sign the bill, now we just need to keep the momentum going!

2010 Census Outreach to Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

Happy New Year! It's 2010, and no matter how you say it -- "two thousand and ten" or "twenty-ten" -- the new year brings one very important matter -- THE 2010 CENSUS!!!

Over the holidays, I noticed a good number of press releases and news items about efforts by AAPI community organizations to encourage, but I'm thinking that most of us were in the holiday mood, and could use a reminder of what's happening!

Pedestrians passing by Union Square Park early on Thursday morning a week and a half ago would have noticed three buses idling on the north side of the park. Gathering outside were 140 New Yorkers, from 13 year old Danielle Curre to retired animator Ron Crawford. They held handmade signs and wore small blue buttons.
